Update: Cody came back up and answered a few questions.
There was no time for Q&A during the Y!OS session. Here were the things that jumped into my mind during the session:
- One of the most exciting aspects of the Y!OS to me is the output potential for updates from third party sites, for example, "Lawrence has posted a blog entry." Have you partnered with any of the third party distribution tools like Gigya or Widgetbox for launch?
IT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE THERE WERE ANY HANDPICKED LAUNCH PARTNERS.
- What kind of push back was there from the various Y! properties about this company wide initiative to allow third party applications to show up on hugely popular properties like Mail, Answers, and IM?
IT SOUNDS LIKE EACH PROPERTY GETS A BIG SAY IN HOW FAR THEY INTEGREGATE.
- Did any third party developers get a head start in building applications for the Y!OS?
NO
- You spoke a lot about Yahoo! Pipes as away to query exposed data from around the web. How does this work? Does Yahoo! Pipes act as an API for other open APIs?
- What about monetization? Are there monetization opportunities for third party developers other than driving traffic back to their own destination sites?
MONETIZATION / ADS ALLOWED ON FULL PAGE VIEW, BUT NOT MODULE / WIDGET VIEW.
- It seems that many of the Yahoo! APIs have pretty strict terms regarding commercial usage. Is anything changing in this regards with YQL?
