THe Old World
walled garden, gap btw social sites and social networks
New world: open identity
Push out from the social network, and draw activities back in.
Identity standards:
activity: rss, atom, xmpp, opensocial
profile, hcard, hcal, opensocial, sreg, attribute exchange
authentication: oauth, openid
social graph: opensocial, xfn, foaf, portablecontacts
repution: microID
content: xpspf, exif, etc.
why this matters:
user acquisition - lowers barrier to entry
retention - become complementary and indispensable
traffic - make your service a fulcrum
monetization
everyone is building on the open stack
Social Windows: Google Friend Connect - make it so a mom and pop blog social
Closing THoughts:
web is open and social, and standards can power social functionality
