I've been making a living off the Web for more than 8 years now (with one "break"). During this period, I've come to regard the Monday following labor day as a big day. Specifically, today kicks off the first full week of an extended Q4 period that will prove to be make or break time for many web publishers.
Historically, September - December of any given year has accounted for more than 50% of the year's revenue. Why is this? I think it's due to a couple of reasons.
School is back in session.
In many places, the weather is starting to drive people indoors, and online.
Christmas advertisers and marketers are starting to put their plans in place, driving CPMs up.
Consumers are starting their holiday shopping, driving affiliate sales up.
I'd like to be the first to wish my fellow Web entrepreneurs a fabulous extended Q4. May your CPMs and affiliate conversions rise, may your sites be the talk of high school and college classrooms and campuses, and may your servers stay up.
