There's been a lot of good coverage about EMI's decision to sell unprotected music through iTunes. For write-ups, check out A VC and Stickiwidgets.
I have to think this is good news for widget publishers and consumers. I think back to when I was testing the Razz widget, and how annoying it was to not be able to upload any of my iTunes tracks as background music. This will no longer be an issue for the $1.29 EMI tracks. I'm sure there's plenty of user generated widgets that will benefit from having some legal background music.
I also wonder how this announcement will affect a company like Streampad. Will it be long before I can share my DRM-free purchased music library via a Streampad widget?
