More Widgets Live Observations

Here are a few more random thoughts that I picked up at Widgets Live:

  • Contextually aware widgets are part of what's coming next - e.g widgets that react to the content of a blog post, like a "rate this post" widget ((Byrne Reese, SixApart)
  • Photobucket saw a significant jump in widget adoption when they stopped calling them widgets and started calling them slideshows (Peter Pham, Photobucket)
  • The first MySpace widget, RockMySpace, appeared in 11/05 (Peter Pham, Photobucket)
  • Google Gadgets is pitching their ability to algorithmically present widgets with a higher probability of adoption for specific users.  Using search data to improve widget adoption. (Adam Sah, Google Personalized Home Page)
  • Users don't want to be owned by a Web service - for this reason you won't see a logo when you go to Netvibes (Tariq Krim, Netvibes)
